The Gift Bearer
Gift bearing is an art form perfected by few. I recently had the good fortune to be the recipient of gifts born by
an expert, though I'm not sure he is himself even aware of his talents in the field.
John from The Keys came to visit this week and gave my cabin a shake down for a few days (meaning it
hadn't been occupied for some time and hasn't been set up for short term occupants). We met through the
Internet via our respective web-sites about a year ago and decided to be friends..of the real sort..not the
Facebook sort. He's visited me twice since then, partly due to him owning a small plot of land not too far off
that borders the Uvita River and is painfully without a dry spot to sleep anywhere in The Rainy Season. I think
he is rather like me being inclined towards sleeping sans rain, hence my extra bed and cabin have come in
handy on such occasions. He is good company for awhile, then retreats to his own devices, leaving me to
mine. To me, this is the stuff all visiting visitors should be made of. Beyond the gift of knowing when to go
entertain himself, he offers to deliver stuff from The States, and delivers without any mix ups or problems,
which can be immeasurably valuable considering the scarcity of certain items here, and the disappointment
incured when receiving the wrong article after long awaiting something completely different.
I think I'll make this short and just add the gift of friendship to the mix which also included a 7 year old
bottle of Havana Rum, and a hat with a spotlight visor bearing the name "Thomas" on the band.
All good stuff; Johnny Too Bad, or John From The Keys as I like to call him, can come visit any time.
