The Dukes of Oil Magazine
I put this magazine
together single-handedly
while reading a book and
operating the pipeline for
what is now Kinder
Morgan Energy
Partners, inc, in
Concord, California. It
was met with little
enthusiasm from
management, and a
decidedly mixed reaction
from employees in
general. A few brave
people actually forked
out 20 bucks for a copy
(which is what it cost me
to print on photo paper),
but I did make enough
copies to send one to
each station in the
pipeline (about 15 I think)
and five or six to
distribute around
Concord..at my own
expense, so it costs me a
bundle (on operators
pay)..
Finally, the legal wrangling is over! I am now free to
release it for all the world to see, in it's unmittified
splendiferousness!

Note from the editor: When thinking back to the nearly 20 years I worked for the
pipeline, I must confess; I don't miss it. I am grateful, however for their somewhat
open-armed acceptance of me after taking multiple and rather long-termed
sabbaticals, then keeping me on after some pretty hairy screw-ups I orchestrated
single-handedly, yet lacking malice and/or fore-thought..
Picture in your mind an 80 thousand barrel tank. Now picture that tank with diesel
fuel flying out the top at 5000 barrels an hour. Now picture me trying to explain the 3
foot deep lake of diesel fuel filling the dikes surrounding the tank. The wind was up
that day...ever seen white caps on a lake of diesel fuel? I have.
